10 most-popular food trucks on Instagram

A U.K. based price comparison website recently compiled a list of U.S. food trucks with the most Instagram followers.

One of the great things about Instagram as a marketing tool is that it allows you to advertise your location to people. This makes it a natural for food trucks, since they can direct customers to their location once they've hooked them with exciting pictures of their mouthwatering food.

Some food trucks have put Instagram to great use.

Compare the Market, a U.K. based price comparison website, recently compiled a list of the 10 food trucks with the most Instagram followers in the U.S. Compare the Market allows consumers to find food trucks with the most Instagram followers, and can filter these trucks by geographic region and food type.

Astro Doughnuts in Los Angeles took top honors with 50,400 followers.

The three cities with the most food truck followers are: Los Angeles, with 108,426 followers; New York City with 69,595 followers; and Austin with 31,370 followers.

A popular online presence tends to include bright, colorful images of a variety of dishes, the company noted in reviewing the most-followed food trucks. The most followed trucks also have their photos are redistributed on other websites, and frequently update their schedules.

Here are the top 10 most followed food trucks in the U.S.

10. Neapolitan Express, New York City, 9,216 followers

The Neapolitan Express serves organic, non-GMO, authentic Neapolitan pizza from a truck that is powered purely by clean energy. This environmentally-conscious company is based in New York. 

The pizza is cooked in a traditional wood-fired oven and their toppings include Fennel Sausage, mozzarella, tomato and pesto, and truffle, artichoke and prosciutto. For those who prefer breakfast on the go, they also serve a variety of baked pastries such as croissants, cinnamon swirls, doughnuts and fresh coffee.

The Instagram feed is filled with photos of their pizza, with many showcasing the New York scenery and their traditional oven to their followers. 

9. Ruby Jewel Ice Cream, Portland, 9,447 followers

Artisan ice cream sandwiches and scoops in some truly delectable flavors can be found across Portland. As their saying goes, "A balanced diet is an ice cream sandwich in each hand."

The ice cream and cookie sandwiches are also stocked across grocers in Portland in flavor combinations such as oatmeal chocolate chip and butterscotch, lemon and honey lavender, and brown sugar and Oregon strawberry. 

The Instagram features artistic close ups of their sandwiches, and images encouraging their customers to make the sandwiches even more indulgent by dipping them in melted chocolate and adding sprinkles. 

8.   NYC Mac Truck, New York City, 9,828 followers

New York City's most iconic mac and cheese truck serves up North American cuisine with a variety of cheesy dishes. These include pulled pork paninis, BBQ chicken, and beef burgers, all topped with their famous pasta. 

This food truck is frequently hired to cater at weddings and parties, and they have recently opened a new truck in Texas. The Instagram features their upcoming locations and videos showing their stringy mac and cheese. 

7. Uncle Gussy's, New York City, 10,300 followers

Uncle Gussy's is the food truck for lovers of Greek food. With two brothers serving customers, and their mother preparing all the delicious meats and sauces, customers can enjoy anything from a gyro pita to authentic pork souvlaki in New York City

The professional photography shows the variety in their menu in a style that keeps their brand recognition strong as nearly every images includes their logo. 

6. Word of Mouth, Los Angeles, 18,200 followers

This 100% plant-based food truck is on a mission to encourage veganism within the streets of Los Angeles. The inventive menu at Word of Mouth means customers can enjoy buffalo cauliflower "chicken wings," the Word burger made with sweet potato and a black bean patty, or a Beyond Meat patty with vegan cheese in a pretzel bun.

The Instagram feed includes annotated photos of their stacked-up burgers with labels of each ingredient, and close-ups of their deep fried vegan mac and cheese balls with house ranch.

Sugar + Spoon is based in Seattle and sells up ready to eat cookie dough and ice cream. Their cookie dough comes in a variety of flavors including smores, chocolate chip and Oreo, and is topped with graham cracker crumbs, Hershey's chocolate chunks, and marshmallow fluff.

The Instagram page features colorful, branded photos in a pink and blue color scheme.

4. PDX Sliders, Portland, 13,800 followers

This Portland based truck now has two permanent venues and has been named the number 5 best burger in America by Yelp. The Instagram page flaunts the pecan-smoked pork belly sliders and double beef burgers with caramelized onions, American cheese and aioli in a Brioche bun. 

The truck also hosts the Gaff Challenge, which tests their customers to eat a burger with five patties, five slices of cheese, and five strips of bacon and fries in under five minutes in a chance to win a t-shirt and hat. 

3. Vchos Truck, Los Angeles, 46,600 followers

Also known as Papusas, this food truck serves up fresh, authentic El Salvadorian cuisine with a Latin American twist. offering gluten free, vegan and veggie options. The delicacies include pupusas, fried platanos and chicken pasteles.

The truck shares photos against LA's palm trees and features videos of their creations. 

2. Island Spice Grill, New York City, 47,800 followers

The Island Spice Grill truck features shrimp, lobster and jerk chicken with rice and peas.

The Instagram page is filled with informative posters, showing where their truck can be found and images of their jerk cuisine. 

1. Astro Doughnuts, Los Angeles, 50,400 followers

Astro Doughnuts has expanded over the years and now run multiple trucks in several locations in Los Angeles including Santa Monica, Hollywood and Playa District.

Customers can try a variety of flavors including Chocolate Espresso Cookies n' Cream, Peanut Butter and Jelly or Maple Bacon doughnuts. They also have a broad savory menu including fried chicken and gravy sandwiches, salads, buffalo chicken wings and a wide selection of alcoholic and soft beverages.

The Instagram page features images of their brightly colored doughnut creations.
