Raul Gomez-Eudave, 18, has taken over his mother Micaela Eudave's food truck Tacos Michoacan in Othello, Washington, following her arrest by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He was informed of the arrest by videos and calls from others, according to a report by the Spokesman.
"I thought they were going to pick up people with criminal backgrounds, who would just not be good for society," Gomez-Eudave told the news outlet. "My mom's never done anything wrong."
Family friend Rosa Garcia told the Spokesman, "Since I've known her, all she does is work and put her efforts into her business. She has no criminal record, she does her taxes."
Gomez-Eudave, a high school student, said he goes to the food truck after school to run it. The Othello School District has said it will support all students regardless of background.
"They told me I'm not alone and gave me support," Gomez-Eudave said in the report. "I really appreciated it. … One of my teachers also stopped by and gave me papers on immigration and what to do, which was really nice."
