Akron, Ohio food trucks are relying on private and special events for business because the $1,750 fee they have to pay for parking on city streets makes doing business on city property cost prohibitive, according to Crain’s Cleveland Business.
The city-sponsored Cascade Cucina events on Wednesdays has attracted a lot of food trucks since the events technically are not on city streets. Akron charges only a $35 fee for trucks to participate in the event.
Akron Mayor Dan Horrigan is looking at changing the 2014 ordinance that established the steep fees.
