The Decatur Daily, which serves Decatur, Alabama, has urged its lawmakers to make the city friendlier to food trucks as it considers legislation to revise existing regulations. Proposed changes include allowing food trucks on private property and establishing a process for operating a food truck in the city.
The editorial opposes the proposed involvement of five city departments — planning, revenue, building, fire and police — in the licensing process. According to the newspaper, other than health inspectors, only the revenue department should be involved, since its role is to ensure that sales taxes are collected.
