The increasing number of restaurants in Alpharetta, Georgia, has prompted a permanent closing of a food truck alley event that began in 2012.
City leaders are looking into establishing different outdoor events, according to an Atlanta Journal-Constitution report.
The weekly food truck alley was last held in 2019 and canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But the pandemic did not play a role in the permanent shutdown. A decreasing consumer base is the prime reason, according to city administrators.
"Food Truck Alley quickly became a huge success that helped to create the vibrant environment we envisioned," Alpharetta Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard told the news outlet. "It really was the seed from which the idea of downtown Alpharetta sprouted and ultimately grew into the destination it is today."
