Austin, Texas posts the nation's biggest food truck gain since 2006

Austin, Texas posted the biggest increase in food trucks over the past six years, growing from 648 in 2006 to 1,265 food trucks in 2016, according to khou.com.

According to census data, Austin has the second highest number of food trucks per capita in the country, with about one food truck per 25,000 people.

Stephen Kaste, manager and cook at Thai Kun food truck, said the city, along with brick-and-mortar restaurant owners, plays a big role in the success of smaller startups like food trucks.
