California county to require food trucks to display color-coded placards following health inspections

April 17, 2019

Food trucks in Contra Costa County, California will display the same color-coded health safety inspection placards that brick-and-mortar restaurants use following health inspections planned over the next few weeks, according to the Concord Patch.

County health officials will inspect mobile food facilities that prepare and cook food, along with facilities that sell certain pre-packaged items. The food trucks will display red, green, yellow or white placards demonstrating inspection results.

Red placards will indicate closure due to major health violations. Yellow will indicate major health violations were found but fixed. Green will indicate minimal or no problems, while white will indicate the business is waiting to renew a permit following a closure.

Trucks or carts selling only pre-packaged ice cream, uncut produce or prepackaged items that aren't likely to spoil, will be exempt.
