October 8, 2018

Food trucks normally serve customers through midafternoon in front of the Richard J. Daley Center in Chicago, home of the Cook County Circuit Court. However operators bolted early on Friday, Oct. 5, in anticipation of the verdict in the trial of a police officer charged with the 2014 killing of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, according to oath.com. The case has sparked racial tensions.

At 12:30 p.m., the jury told the judge that it had reached a verdict. The jury found officer Jason Van Dyke guilty on a charge second degree murder, and not guilty on a charge of official misconduct.
