City officials in Aurora, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, presented the city council's committee of the whole with an amendment to regulate food trucks and to establish licenses and fees, according to the Chicago Tribune.
City officials have been studying regulations after last year's food truck festival downtown, which was very popular, said Alex Voigt, assistant chief of staff in the mayor's office.
Aurora Fire Chief Gary Krienitz said he wanted the fire department to inspect ventilation, storage and fire extinguishers.
The trucks must be licensed and charged fees since they could impact the brick and mortar restaurants that pay fees and taxes, officials noted.
The amendment would create different tiers of licenses, including a one-day-only license, a one-time license for four events, and an annual license to operate in the city at all times.
The amendment will be on the March 13 city council agenda.
