Freedom Kitchen, a volunteer initiative of Knox United Church in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, has moved from the church kitchen to a food truck to provide warm meals to low-income residents in the parking lot of the Sackville Public Library on Mondays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. since Oct. 3, according to a CBC News report.
Close to 160 people usually show up. Six to eight people spend six hours in the church kitchen cooking meals for the truck.
Rainie Murphy, co-chair of Freedom Kitchen, said they decided to use a food truck provided by the Salvation Army because some people are not comfortable in a church environment.
Bowlin Farms Doggie Adventures in Lower Sackville has donated the meat.
The food truck will continue to serve meals through April.
