The Clarendon County Council approved the first reading an of an ordinance to regulate food trucks and other mobile vendors. If approved, it would set up clear guidelines surrounding fire marshal inspections, temporary use permits and minimum distances from homes, restaurants and fuel storage places, according to a report by WLTX
Tabitha Hanna, director of the Clarendon County Planning Commission said that food truck operators would be granted yearly permits once they meet state health codes, fire inspections and other guidelines.
"And every year at the end of the year, they would have to come in and reapply to operate again for the upcoming year. We love it and welcome it," Hanna said in the report.
Food truck operators are pleased with the proposed guidelines.
"I am trying to get to Clarendon County and I think it's great because it seems like they simplified the steps in order to get there, and it seems affordable as well so I'm excited because I really do want to expand my business," Sabrina Monroe, owner of The Spot Food Truck, said in the report.
The ordinance will need three readings before being adopted, with the next two being scheduled for Sept. 8 and Oct. 13.
