A Colorado program aims to help food trucks transition from generators to electric systems. Engines Off for Food Trucks will give owners up to $20,000 to buy these systems, according to a report by Denver 7.
It covers 80% of the cost, which allowed owners like Alex Maloof of Café Alejandro to purchase a Joule Case battery.
"Even though that was still hard to come up with the extra 20%, there was no chance I was not going to do this because it was the opportunity to get this system," Maloof said.
The Regional Air Quality Council aims to convert 100 food trucks to electric systems within the next two years.
David Sabados, a spokesperson for the council said that this is part of an effort to reduce pollution as generators have "far fewer emissions control devices," than cars.
