Colorado Springs updates food truck rules to allow permits

July 5, 2017

The Colorado Springs City Council has updated the city food truck rules to allow food truck owners to get an extended use permit for a metered parking spot. The ordinance should be finalized by mid-July, at which time truck owners can start applying for a permit, according to The Colorado Springs Independent.

Food truck owners cannot operate within 20 feet of an intersection. They cannot sell to someone standing in the street, and they cannot block traffic, vehicular or pedestrian.

The change allows food truck owners to get an extended use permit for a metered parking spot. A brick-and-mortar business must partner with a food truck and apply for the permit on their behalf for up to four parking meter hoods, usable on either side of the street where the business is located. Each brick-and-mortar business is limited to two such permits per year, but food trucks can work with as many businesses as they wish. The food truck can use the space for up to 12 hours, and the meter hood must go on two hours in advance.
