Columbia, Missouri to add more downtown food truck spots

January 5, 2018

The Columbia Downtown Improvement District has proposed three new parking spaces for food trucks, according to The Missourian.

Katie Essing, executive director of The District, recently presented the proposal to the city council. She said that the new locations were vetted by both the CID Economic Development Committee and the Mid-Missouri Restaurants Association to accommodate brick-and-mortar restaurants' concerns.

The food trucks will park in designated spots and will use parking meter hoods to pay for their time.

The protocol will be the same for the existing spots, which the city designated in 2014. Each time they are headed downtown, a food truck will need to request a meter bag from the city. The daily cost is $10 and the system is first come, first served.

The city presently has 23 licensed mobile food vendors, including both trucks and carts, according to city finance department records.
