Connecticut town restricts food trucks and carts

August 7, 2017

Lawmakers in Putnam, Connecticut will discuss a new ordinance allowing food trucks and carts in Simonzi Park. The ordinance will be discussed at an August 14 meeting, according to The Norwich Bulletin.

The recreation commission approved changes to the ordinance.

There has been confusion over where food trucks can locate and concern from some brick-and-mortar restaurants.

Selectman Owen Tarr, chairman of the recreation commission, said it was the restaurant opposition that drove the decision to allow the mobile food vendors only in Simonzi Park.

The ordinance does not affect special events like River Fire, where mobile food vendors can be found closer to Rotary Park.

Morey said the new ordinance also clarifies that food vendors have to follow zoning regulations for signs.
