Getting a spot to serve the downtown lunch crowd has become a game of chance for Minneapolis food truck operators, according to the Star Tribune. Drivers have to compete for the few prime spots near 6th Street and 2nd Avenue S, both of which are rush hour lanes where parking is prohibited from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Those who miss getting these spots but have "obstruction permits" can pull into bus lanes after buses finish using them at 10 a.m.
Parking is easier to find on Marquette Avenue at The Commons, a small downtown park that does not have rush-hour restrictions.
The maneuvering has been complicated by construction in the area this summer. Some of the parking meters have been made unavailable, as indicated by red bags placed over them.
Parking citations cost food truck operators $200 and up.
