Daytona Beach, Florida, city commissioners recently decided to table finalizing rules for mobile food vendors due to questions about hours of operation, distance limits from restaurants and other factors, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal. The commissioners expect to vote at their Jan. 16 meeting on a preliminary plan and make a final decision at their Feb. 6 meeting.
To date, food trucks have been allowed to operate in the city on special occasions with permission.
Proposed rules include allowing food trucks on privately owned commercial property and multi-family properties with the owner's consent. Food sales would also be permitted on city right-of-way property in areas without vehicular traffic and not close to homes, with the exception of areas considered "food deserts."
