The Detroit City Council is gifting food truck operators with relaxed location rules once Spring, 2022 arrives.
Food trucks in Metro Detroit will be able to serve more neighborhoods given changes to food truck regulations. The council said allowing food trucks into neighborhoods that lack food options is beneficial to residents and also brings a variety of food options to more communities, according to a report at The Detroit Free Press.
Another goal of the rule revamp is to bring a variety of food to more neighborhoods.
"From an equity standpoint and from a food access standpoint, we believe food trucks should be able to operate in public spaces across the city," Councilwoman Raquel Castañeda-Lopez told Fox 2 Detroit, according to the report.
The ordinance still requires food trucks to be 200 feet away from restaurants and 300 feet from entertainment and sports arena areas.
