Food court opens in Asheville, North Carolina

The 68 Haywood Street Food Truck Court in downtown Asheville, North Carolina, will enable pedestrians to choose from a rotating variety of mobile-made cuisines Wednesdays through Saturdays, according to the Mountain Xpress.

The lot at 68 Haywood St., previously called the "Pit of Despair," lies along one of downtown's busiest stretches.

The new food court is part of the city's Mobile Food Vending Pilot program, which the city council approved at a Dec. 19 meeting. Participating trucks pay $50 for a one-year permit and the use of on-site electrical hookups, and they are required to clean up all trash they generate.
