Food truck operators claim one truck has a monopoly in Massachusetts town

August 10, 2018

Food truck operators in Brockton, Massachusetts, are complaining that one food truck currently has a monopoly, a charge the mayor denies, according to The Enterprise.

Historically, food trucks have not been permitted to serve downtown. This summer, however, Biggie's food truck, based in East Bridgewater, has been operating weekly on City Hall Plaza at the Brockton Farmers Market, as well as at the Prova! pop-up beer garden and performance space on Friday.

Brockton Mayor Bill Carpenter said the city is starting to permit food trucks for special events at designated locations. He said he would eventually like to permit different food trucks for a rotation at the Brockton Farmers Market, and he is exploring the possibility of providing a food truck space at the Brockton Area Transit Authority Intermodal Centre on Commercial Street.
