Food truck ordinance approved for Utah county

December 4, 2018

The Summit County, Utah, council has approved an ordinance regulating food trucks and mobile food courts in the Snyderville Basin, despite being restricted by state law in its ability to regulate food trucks, according to the Park Record.

Food trucks will be permitted to operate only on private property defined as either a resort or a town center. Trucks will be prohibited in residential areas without a special event permit. They will be permitted to provide tables and chairs as long as they do not block public areas.

Food trucks will be permitted to park in one location for up to 12 hours in a 24-hour period. Operators will require a conditional-use permit for two or more trucks to park together.

Operators licensed in other counties will have to obtain a health inspection permit in Summit County, and the Summit County Health Department will have the power to close the business due to a violation.

The state has limited the ability of local government to require multiple fees, permits or licenses for food truck operators.
