Food truck parking ordinance raises operator ire in Louisville

November 14, 2018

Food truck operators in Louisville, Kentucky, converged on a Metro Council session amid concerns that an ordinance banning them from parking at metered spaces could threaten their business, according to a report by WAVE.

The proposed ordinance would create designated zones where food trucks can park and serve food. The zones, however, are not yet outlined. Operators have said that their customers have limited lunch breaks so they would not have much time to walk to a zone and make a food truck purchase.

According to the story, food vendors often reserve metered spots from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m., and pay up to $17. The Louisville Parking Authority made about $50,000 over the last fiscal period from parking fees paid by these vendors.
