Food truck owners in Virginia Beach, Virginia, have advised lawmakers they are growing impatient waiting for rules to govern their operations. The operators assembled at the city hall last week to express their dissatisfaction, according to the Virginia Pilot.
Restaurant owners, under the Restaurant Association, urged the city council not to act on new rules. Association president Phil Boyer said restaurants believe the city is moving too quickly on food truck regulations.
Mayor Bobby Dyer on Tuesday said the city council will decide on licensing procedures, but he did not say when rules would be made on where trucks can operate.
Food truck owners say the Restaurant Association is delaying the vote on a new law in the hope that the food trucks will just go away, said MJ Medlar, owner of Capt'n Crabby food truck. Medlar said the food truck owners are no longer trying to compromise with restaurant owners.
