Food truck and restaurant owners squared off during a public hearing Monday evening in Bel Air, Maryland, on a proposed ordinance to expand the areas where food trucks can park and serve customers, according to The Baltimore Sun.
Food truck operators said they want the town to provide more space for them to operate. Owners of downtown restaurants and other businesses asserted that the ordinance would help an industry that does not have the same overhead costs as brick-and-mortar businesses.
The ordinance would permit food trucks to operate on private property in the 300 block of South Main Street between Baltimore Pike and Powell Avenue, and on the city-owned Bel Air Armory property, at adjoining private businesses and in the public parking lot at Pennsylvania Avenue.
The commissioners postponed a vote on the ordinance until their next meeting.
