Food trucks gain popularity in residential communities

January 8, 2018

Residential developments are recognizing the importance of providing food trucks and other social activities that improve the sense of community, according to a Washington Post column penned by a real estate broker, Jill Chodorov Kaminsky.

She wrote that she has met many neighbors she would not have met otherwise at food trucks that visit her Washington, D.C. condominium.

Chan Frazier, founder of Socially Directed, a resident retention consulting firm based in Washington, D.C., told Kaminsky residential communities can improve their retention rates by coordinating social events.

One Connecticut condominium complex has food trucks that sell 100 meals in three hours. The building manager, Margie Nichols, said what started as a monthly event will now be weekly, and the complex is now booked to the end of January with a waiting list of food trucks.
