Food trucks in DC, Virginia and Maryland hurting due to COVID-19, reveals study

March 24, 2020

A survey of food truck operators in the DC, Maryland and Virginia areas, by a regional association, reveals just about three-quarters are experiencing a huge drop in sales and business compared to a year ago.

The drop-off in revenue is due to the ongoing COVID-10 coronavirus pandemic that's forcing restaurants bars to cease dine-in operations and shuttering many public dining opportunities for food truck operators, such as festivals and events.

One food truck operator, according to a Washington City Paper report, said it wouldn't be surprising if a double digit percent of the food truck industry doesn't survive.

The DC, Maryland, and Virginia Food Truck Association survey also revealed 72% of food truck operators took trucks off the road for at least one day of curbside vending due to coronavirus and 90 percent lost out on at least one special event. Catering business is also taking a hit, according to the survey.
