Food trucks serve the homeless in Sacramento, California

May 23, 2017

Thirteen food trucks served meals to the homeless Tuesday as part of the annual Food Truck Day at Loaves and Fishes homeless sanctuary in Sacramento, California, according to Capital Public Radio. Food Truck Day typically serves more than 600 meals.

This is the fourth year for the event, which was hosted by event organizer Sacto Mofo and city councilman Jeff Harris.

"They have the opportunity to experience the unique food of our food trucks, and then we at Loaves and Fishes, we don't have to provide this meal. The food trucks are providing it for us," said Justin Wandro at Loaves and Fishes.

"Everybody needs something at some point. Those of us who have a little bit more, I think it's kind of our responsibility to give a little bit. They're nice enough to organize it for us and get everybody in one spot so we can feed as many as possible," said Chris Allen with Smokers Wild BBQ, one of the participating food trucks.
