Food trucks to be permitted in renovated Michigan park

February 14, 2018

A new shelter will provide space for food trucks at the Celery Flats Historical Area in Portage, Michigan, according to mlive.com.

The Portage city council approved the purchase of $201,880 in shelter materials from Penchura, LLC. A 2,300 square-foot covered pavilion will include a pedestrian plaza with food court, mobile concession hook-ups, two restrooms, a private patio area, a deck overlooking the pond and water fountains.

It will be the first time food trucks will be able to access Celery Flats. Larry Shaffer, Portage city manager, said the food trucks will bring a good vibe to Portage's grandest park.

The pavilion will replace the Celery Flats Interpretive and Historical Center, which recognizes the importance of the celery industry in Kalamazoo County.
