Park City, Utah, has approved regulations that will allow trucks registered with the city to set up on public property or approved private property. Many restaurants, however, are nervous that food trucks will bring unfair competition, according to a report by the Park Record.
Restaurateurs have expressed concerns about food trucks paying back less to the community in sales, resort and restaurant taxes. They also have protested food trucks being allowed to serve large sporting events such as the Triple Crown Fastpitch World Series.
Others are happy to see the food trucks come to town. Amanda Angevine, general manager of the Park City Ice Arena, supports the new regulations because the rink has no concessions or restaurants in the area.
"Park City is probably one of the harder cities to go to because they have been a little slower to adapt to some of the regulations and changes," Taylor Harris, owner and general manager of The Food Truck League, said in the report. "Park City is not going to be overrun with food trucks. The population is just not big enough."
