Grand Rapids mulls food truck ordinance changes

Grand Rapids leaders are mulling changing the city food truck ordinance in an effort to ease costs and burdens for food truck operators.

Lawmakers have proposed a revamped permit process, according to a mLive Michigan report, that will make it less expensive. A few months earlier city leaders made it easier for trucks to operate in public areas. The current proposal would make it easier for private property operation, noted the report.

Two years ago the city launched a pilot ordinance letting operators on public property and formally adopted that ordinance this past January.

The proposed ordinance regarding private property operation would allow for a "90 days or less" permit in a mixed-commercial zone and eliminate the current special land use application process.
