Food truck operators in Woodstock, Illinois have an updated set of rules to follow as the city council passed new regulations last week.
Prior to the new rules, food truck operators were limited to 10 permits a year to operate in the city, with each permit good for three consecutive days.
The updated rule allows for 30 permits a year, according to a Northwest Herald report.
"We thought there was some concern by council that these should not be permanent fixtures in the community, that there needs to be a form of balance between how often a food truck is out there versus the brick-and-mortar businesses," City Manager Roscoe C. Stelford III told the news outlet regarding the initial permit requirements.
The council also reduced truck permit fees. The first permit is $50 and $25 for nine after that. The remaining 20 permits are free.
Truck operators need to get business owner permission if parking next to a business and must given notice to any business within 250 feet of their location, according to the report.
"I can see with COVID-19, and the reason why we're coming to council with the changes in the regulations, is we have seen several businesses now that are partnering with food trucks and bringing them into the community," Stelford told the news outlet.
