The Wauconda, Illinois license and administration committee is reviewing rules for food trucks, prompted by an online petition to allow ice cream trucks and the national interest in food trucks, according to The Daily Herald.
Mobile food, beverage and ice cream vendors are not allowed to serve customers on public streets and sidewalks under existing rules. However, a food truck rally at a park or on private property "would probably pass muster" under the current rules, said village trustee Tim Howe, who heads the committee.
The rules also prohibit mobile vendors from using sound systems on streets or in other public places, which affects ice cream trucks more than gourmet food trucks.
Following a committee discussion Tuesday, Howe said the village will probably ban food trucks on Main Street due to the abundance of restaurants there. Officials also want to keep food trucks away from other places where they would compete with brick-and-mortar restaurants, he said.
