It has taken nearly a year, but Jersey City leaders, in New Jersey, are close to finalizing a revised food truck policy and it may happen by the end of the month.
The city council is set to vote next week on a revamped ordinance that will amend parking costs and regulations for mobile food businesses, according to a NJ.com report
The ordinance will establish two zones for operating a mobile food business, with 15 specific spots in downtown Jersey City and a second zone providing 25 other spots across the city.
Zone 1 will require a permit and an annual fee of $11,000 payable in 12 monthly installments. Those operating in Zone 2 will pay by the hour via the Park Mobile app, according to the news report.
The ordinance would replace a year-old law that ignited some debate, according to the report.
Under the revised rule, vendors can sell food between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., except for those on Columbus Drive, where trucks can remain open until 11 p.m.
