The Kansas City public school district has deployed a food truck to provide free meals this summer to youths 18 and under and their parents, according to The Kansas City Star. The district is partnering with Healthy Communities Wyandotte on a summer food program with 50 sites around the county.
The program will feed about 4,000 youths this summer, with support from the school district and Healthy Communities Wyandotte, and $5,000 from a Cities Combating Hunger Through Afterschool and Summer Meal Programs grant.
The truck brings the packaged meals to Strawberry Hill Farmers Market on Wednesday mornings and to Bethany Park, Splitlog Farm and Heathwood Spray Park every weekday.
