Loan sought for Milwaukee’s first food truck park

April 17, 2019

Developers of Zocalo Food Park, a food truck park planned in Milwaukee at the former site of a pop-up bar at 618-640 South Sixth St., are seeking a $520,000 loan from a nonprofit business lender to develop the city's first food truck park, according to the Milwaukee Sentinel

The park would have six or seven food trucks, parking, outdoor seating and a bar. Planners expect to have 20 full-time and 17 part-time employees.

According to the Milwaukee Economic Development Corp., the project, owned by Sean Phelan, owner of Phelan Development LLC, and Jesus O. Gonzalez, founder of Mazorca Tacos, will cost around $1.3 million,

Zocalo MKE LLC is seeking the loan from MEDC, a nonprofit lender, with Tri City National Bank as the primary lender. The loan would be used to purchase the site and help finance the conversion of an existing tavern into a beverage center to serve food truck customers, renovate the vacant lots, repave 33 parking stalls and renovate a garage into a sheltered seating area.

The group will review the loan request Wednesday.
