The Marshall, North Carolina Town Board is currently considering whether it will allow food trucks to operate downtown. However, some board members and business owners expressed concerns about the food trucks impacting downtown restaurants, according to a report by Citizen Times.
Pete Whitlock, restaurant owner and resident, first brought the issue to the board to allow food trucks to operate. He also wants to offer three food trucks in the area. These trucks would not be allowed to offer food items that are already provided by restaurants in the area.
However, some board members including Aileen Payne brought up that many restaurants are still struggling to get back on their feet following Hurricane Helene.
Another issue brought up was the fact that there was no designated area for dumping grease from food trucks. The proposed change would put in grease traps for food trucks.
The board has pushed the food truck issue to the planning board for the time being.
