Michigan city adopts permanent food truck rules following 2-year test

Grand Rapids, Michigan, will make permanent its food truck regulations after its pilot program expired last month, according to mlive. The city commission has added some minor changes to the ordinance, such as an adjusting 6h4 generator noise limit, introducing an easier licensing process and and providing a  limited special event permit.

The city adopted a trial ordinance for two years in 2016 allowing food trucks on private property. Trucks previously were confined to special events and private property.

The number of licensed food trucks increased from 24 in fiscal year 2017 to 48 in 2019. Among those trucks, 48 percent were open more often by fiscal year 2019, while 30 percent reported more sales, the report said.
