The Petoskey, Michigan planning commission recently began reconsidering food truck regulations after crowds welcomed the first Old Town Emmet Food Truck Rally in September, according to the Petoskey News & Review.
Commissioners talked about the need to create a middle ground between the interest of mobile vendors and traditional businesses during their recent October meeting.
Mobile vendors can currently only operate in public places in conjunction with a community event.
People can operate mobile operations on private property as an "accessory use." An accessory use would be a retail business permitting a mobile retail operation on its property. Mobile vendors can also operate on private lands for a temporary use granted for a specific duration of time and requiring the Zoning Board of Appeals approval each year.
