Milwaukee mayor vetoes proposed food truck ban

March 14, 2019

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has vetoed a ban on food trucks for a certain section of the city, according to Urban Milwaukee. The ban was passed unanimously by the city's common council. The proposed ban applied to the area from 27th Street to the western city limits at South 39th Street, and would have been the sixth food truck ban for a specific section of the city.

Alderman Robert Donovan, who introduced the ban, said he was concerned about traffic congestion and local business complaints about lost parking.

The mayor said he was concerned about the cumulative effects of food truck bans on the city. He said he consulted with the city's police department, public works, parking enforcement division and the city health department, and he is convinced existing food truck restrictions are sufficient.
