Shortly after Hurricane Irma hit more than three months ago, Doug Meyer drove his family's food truck, Finer Meats & Eats, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Everglades City, Florida, to feed anyone who needed a hot meal. He contacted a church in Naples, Florida, and asked where help was needed most, and was directed to Everglades City.
More than three months later, the truck is still there serving people, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Meyer started out with 1,000 meals to give away. Since then, he has been taking donations, sourcing food from local pantries, and running up a charge on his credit card to keep feeding people.
While conditions have improved in Everglades City, many residents have lost all of their possessions while others still cannot return to their homes.
Meyer sleeps in an RV and stores his supplies in tents that he built, including donated gifts for local school kids.
