Lawmakers in Rochester, Minnesota, are looking at ways to make it easier to operate a food truck in the city, according to the Post Bulletin. City council members indicated they will consider eliminating the franchise fee, which food truck owners pay in addition to an annual license fee. Franchises currently cost $750, and the annual license costs $150.
Randy Staver, city council president, said the franchise fee was established to offset some of the lost meter revenue and to be fair to other food establishments in the downtown area, he said, noting brick-and-mortar restaurants pay a property tax.
