Southampton, New York lawmakers have rejected a proposal to allow farm stands to have food trucks, according to a Newsday report.
Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman said the council is concerned about competition for restaurants, traffic and cooking smells in residential neighborhoods.
The proposed law would have allowed third parties to operate food trucks at existing farm stands, required the ingredients to be 80 percent locally grown, and restricted the operation to lunch hours and weekends.
In 2015, the town permitted restaurants to have food trucks on their premises when the restaurants were closed.
