Newport council green lights food trucks, at least for now

July 20, 2020

Food trucks are getting the green light to park and serve along Bellevue Avenue in Newport, Rhode Island. At least until 2021.

The Newport City Council will revisit allowing truck operations on the roadway come next January, according to a Newport This Week report.

Allowing food trucks has been a debate among lawmakers due to potential loss of sales to brick-and-mortar restaurants in the area and a resident who is fearful the community could become "Coney Island," referring to a popular New York City food and amusement area.

Council members will continue to evaluate and assess food truck rules and amendments to existing ordinances, according to the report.
