Ohio city considers food truck regulations in response to restaurant complaints

July 24, 2017

A city council committee in Amherst, Ohio will meet at 6:30 p.m. today to consider legislation to regulate mobile food carts and food trucks, according to The Morning Journal.

John Dietrich, council president, said several restaurant owners downtown approached council last week about a truck that parks on Thursday nights near a restaurant.

Dietrich said the law director has drafted an ordinance to regulate food trucks.

Mayor Mark Costilow said he's not opposed to food carts, but they need to be regulated. He said they park where they want, don't pay real estate taxes and cause noise and pollution. He said there may be a moratorium until some legislation is enacted.
