Pennsylvania city mulling food truck rule revamp

May 13, 2020

The city of Greensburg, Pennsylvania is reassessing its food truck regulation that has been in place since 2016 but has been met with opposition from local restaurant owners.

The debate, according to a Triblive.com report, focuses primarily on whether food trucks hinder and hurt brick-and-mortar restaurants and whether food trucks can help revive the local economy.

Currently food truck operators can serve on city streets from 10:30 p.m. to 3 a.m., and must be 500 feet from brick-and-mortar restaurants.

But city officials are considering easing the restrictive ordinance, according to the report.

One revision may allow food truck operators to get waivers to operate near restaurants and not have to be so far from a restaurant operation.

The city has already decreased the cost of annual food truck licenses as well as less costly licenses for operation at one day and special events.
