Philadelphia's city council is considering a ban on food trucks operating on a three block stretch of Fishtown. Councilman Mark Squilla proposed the ban after he claims food trucks continued to serve food after midnight, according to a report by Fox 29.
"Working with the community, the neighbors and the residents on the street and the business improvement district, we felt the only way left forward was to eliminate that on that three-block stretch and they can go anywhere else throughout the area," Squilla said in the report.
He also claims that leftover trash is an issue in the area. However, since many bars close their kitchens early, food trucks provide access to food late at night.
"I feel strongly that we should get it cleaned up; there should be like a middle ground…where you clean up the place, but I wouldn't ban all the food trucks," Trevor Linton, Fishtown resident, said in the report.
Squilla said he hopes that the city and food truck operators can find a solution to these issues.
