Monessen, a city in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is embracing food trucks now that city leaders have approved an official ordinance for food truck operators to serve in city limits.
"There were no laws preventing food trucks, but there were also no laws offering guidelines, or explicitly allowing them either," Mayor Matt Shorraw told CBS Pittsburgh.
The law requires food truck operators to get an annual permit costing $100 after a one-time application fee of $50, according to the news report.
Food trucks can operate on any public street or property in the downtown area, from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. City leaders hope allowing food trucks will draw more resident traffic to downtown businesses.
A food truck festival is scheduled for Saturday, June 5 at Monessen City Park.
