Portland food truck steps up to help in wake of COVID-19

March 18, 2020

In Portland, Oregon state officials have instigated strict social distancing rules due to the spread of the coronavirus including a ban on dining in at restaurants and bars.

So one food truck operator, seeing the impact resulting in restaurant workers being laid off and furloughed, is giving away food to help those dealing with the financial impact.

Justin Hintze, who owns Jojo food truck in southeast Portland, first began doling out free food to children, according to an Eater Portland report, and then extended it to food industry workers.

He's looking for financial support for his efforts and has raised over $4,000 so far which is letting him expand his free food to those not working in food jobs. Those who want to donate can venmo Hintze at @justin-hintze.
