The city council in Vermilion, Ohio, has proposed a mobile food services ordinance that would ban food trucks from working the city's festivals, events and city streets on regular business days, setting off a heated debate among residents.
Council members have expressed worries that food trucks siphon business from local restaurants and merchants, a report by The Morning Journal said.
On the other side of the issue, food truck operators argue that prohibiting food trucks would unfairly deprive the community of a wider range of culinary choices.
The president of the council has said that the group is simply exploring all options. The proposed ordinance will undergo further review by the council at its Nov. 5 meeting.
