Reno Public Market food hall to feature food trucks

January 24, 2020

The Reno Public Market will house a food hall that will feature independent food trucks, under the directive of the project's principals, Doug Wiele and Rick Casazza, according to a Reno Gazette Journal report.

Wiele said the consumer is looking for something beyond the "standardized merchandising" and wants something local and "true to the place," and food prepared on the spot and not shipped in from a distant location.

A food hall with a Subway is not a food hall, Wiele said.

Steve Schroeder, owner of Reno Street Food and the creator of the regional Food Truck Friday, is serving as the project's food and beverage consultant, according to the project website, and is recruiting vendors for the 16,000-square-foot food hall, which is part of the $40 million renovation of the old Shoppers Square center on West Plumb Lane.

The food hall will have stalls for up to 20 vendors.
